The finale episode of “Yellowstone” Season 5, Part 2 airs Sunday, which will answer some of the questions that have hovered over these concluding episodes of the hit show. But the recent news that series stars Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, and Cole Hauser, who plays Beth’s husband and ranch foreman Rip Wheeler, will star in a “Yellowstone” spinoff, means that viewers haven’t seen the last of the “Yellowstone” saga.

As viewers saw in last week’s Episode 13, “Give the World Away,” Beth was determined to auction off anything on her family’s Yellowstone ranch that wasn’t nailed down, in an effort to try and save the property in the wake of the murder of her father, John Dutton (Kevin Costner, who didn’t return for these final episodes).
It was a fairly unfocused episode, making time for “Yellowstone” co-creator and writer Taylor Sheridan to get ample screen time as Travis, the expert horse trainer in Texas. Apparently, Sheridan decided to write himself a sequence in which he played strip poker with some shapely women (and which also featured a cameo by supermodel Bella Hadid as Travis’ much younger girlfriend), even though that didn’t advance the plot much.
More to the point, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), the estranged brother of. Beth and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), reeled from news reports exposing his affair with Sarah Atwood, the Market Equities lawyer who was scheming with Jamie to revive a lucrative development deal the late John Sutton had opposed, in his role as governor.
Since Sarah had ordered the murder of John Dutton, and told Jamie about it afterward, Jamie is wracked with guilt — he had sounded ready to take drastic action, even if Sarah carried out the murder without Jamie’s explicit knowledge — and worried that he’ll be implicated. Beth, meanwhile, is still swearing to get revenge on Jamie, as she’s convinced he played a role in their father’s death.
After much padded — OK, atmospheric — storytelling (for example, Beth taking Teeter, who’s in mourning for her cowboy sweetheart Colby, to a tourist bar to verbally attack a moneybags transplant), the biggest plot point came at the end. It sounds like Kayce has a plan to save the ranch by essentially giving it away, and as fans of Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequels have suggested, the plan may involve returning the land to the Native tribes who were its original inhabitants.
Will that turn out to be part of the “Yellowstone” finale episode? We do know that the Paramount Network is promoting the Sunday, Dec. 15 episode as the season finale, not the series finale, which adds more fuel to the idea that Sheridan will keep exploring the story of the ranch, and Beth and Rip.
While we wait to see what happens — and what kind of revenge Beth may take on Jamie — here’s the synopsis of what to expect in Season 14, “Life Is a Promise”: “As the Duttons and the Yellowstone cowboys lay John to rest, the fate of the ranch is revealed.”
While the show is dishing up heavy developments, the “Yellowstone” offscreen news has been pretty dramatic, as well, with the initial announcement that the series would end with Season 5, and that star Kevin Costner wouldn’t be coming back for the final episodes.
And there’s still confusion about how to watch “Yellowstone.” The series airs on the Paramount Network, but viewers can’t watch it on the Paramount + streaming service. That’s because, back when the show was beginning, it streamed on Peacockthe NBCUniversal streaming service.
That arrangement turned out to be a major headache for Paramount +, as “Yellowstone” became a massive hit. In an attempt to grab some of the “Yellowstone” fan base, Paramount + has become the home for several shows from “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan, including the prequel series “1883″ and “1923.”
A “Yellowstone” spinoff called “The Madison,” has also been announced, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams and Matthew Fox starring in the show, which is about members of a New York City family who move to central Montana’s Madison River Valley.
While the earlier reports that “Yellowstone” stars Reilly and Hauser were in talks to possibly continue the show, have turned out to be accurate, it’s not yet clear what the spinoff show will be, whether it will have “Yellowstone” in the title, where it will take place, and when viewers can expect to watch it.
There is a way to watch some episodes of “Yellowstone” streaming for free if you are able to watch the show quickly. You can use a seven-day free trial of Philoas mentioned above, as that streaming service has every episode from Season 3 through Season 5, Part 1 available to stream on demand right now. New episodes from Season 5, part 2 will also appear on the streaming service each Sunday as they air.
If you want to start at the beginning, Peacock has “Yellowstone” Seasons 1-5 streaming on demand. Peacock costs just $7.99/monthbut due to the show’s complicated streaming agreement, the second half of Season 5 episodes won’t come to Peacock until after the season finishes airing. Still, if you need to rewatch the entire series, you can do that for under $8 and you’ll have a whole month to burn through those episodes.
“Yellowstone” focuses on the Dutton family, which owns a huge ranching empire in Montana, and battles to keep control of the land, sometimes with deadly consequences. Kevin Costner has starred as John Dutton, the patriarch who faces challenges to his power and contends with conflicts between his grown children, Beth (Kelly Reilly), Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Kayce (Luke Grimes).
As far as TV streaming services go, Philo remains the most cost-friendly and affordable TV streaming service on the market. The company has built their platform by focusing on a particular kind of TV viewer. Fans of Philo tend to like popular series, documentaries, reality TV and movies, but aren’t as interested in things like live sports, premium channels and expensive linear cable networks that drive up the price of other streaming platforms and cable service providers. You can see the complete list of channels Philo has and more information about the platform in our complete Philo streaming guide.
“Yellowstone” airs its Season 5 finale at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, on Paramount Network. Watch the Season 5, Part 2 premiere streaming on demand for free with Philo
